Treatment Of Cerebral Palsy

With physical therapy and treatment of cerebral palsy, the somewhat limited abilities of children afflicted with this condition can improve greatly. Several other types of treatment have proven to be of help in these cases. These include speech therapy, occupational therapy, and psychotherapy. Treatment of cerebral palsy is individualized, and is custom tailored for each child's needs by a team of professional therapists and health care workers. Parents and other caregivers of the child need to be involved in the planning, therapy, and treatment of cerebral palsy so that they are all "on the same page" and can consider what the child needs as a patient, and what the future holds for the child as far as mobility and other physical goals. Children have an advantage in that their brains and nervous systems are still developing. A developing organ has the ability to heal itself, and it is hoped that through the proper care and treatment of cerebral palsy that children with this condition will be able to have a normal adult life.
