Labor C Section

For the vast number of women that require a c section or cesarean section the surgery is safe, effective and not really thought of as a major consideration since it is so common. Unfortunately there can be complications that occur before, during and after a c-section that can lead to ongoing health issues and even the inability to have children in the future. One such complication that occurs after labor, c section births in particular, is an adhesion. Adhesions occur when healing actually fuses organs or tissue together that was not meant to be connected, resulting in future health problems. In most cases these adhesions can be corrected by a repeat surgery; however there are serious complications that can also arise. Talking to an attorney and your medical team before making the decision about treatment or after a c section is important, especially if you are experiencing any type of bowel obstructions, abdominal pain or any other type of digestive or reproductive pain or discomfort after having a c section.

Fast Facts

  • About 90% of all women that have a c section will develop adhesions, most which will disappear on their own.
  • Almost 25% of all births in the USA are by c section.
  • The risk of death from c section is higher than for vaginal births.
