Cerebral Palsy Spasticity

One of the many issues with cerebral palsy is a muscle movement type known as cerebral palsy spasticity. Spasticity is the result of impairment of the central nervous system that causes the muscle to be hypertonic, or in a constant state of contraction. This results in very stiff movements that are often somewhat random as the muscles simply don't respond the same way all the time. While most cases of cerebral palsy have the spastic diagnosis, there are several other types of cerebral palsy as well. Since there is no treatment for cerebral palsy this muscle movement typically continues for the patient's life, often greatly affecting their ability to work, live on their own and lead typical lives. Cerebral palsy spasticity can be caused by trauma to the brain during birth, especially with the use of forceps or vacuum extraction to help with the birthing process in a vaginal birth. Since these issues are often caused by medical errors and mistakes, working with a legal and medical team that specializes in birth trauma is essential in seeking compensation.
