Cerebral Palsy Hemiplegia

Cerebral palsy hemiplegia can be caused by damage to the brain during pregnancy, at birth, or during the early childhood years. Hemiplegia can either be a congenital condition, or it can occur when the child is older, but not after the age of three. An estimated one out of every one thousand children is diagnosed with cerebral palsy hemiplegia. This disorder is not limited to those who have cerebral palsy. Hemiplegia sufferers who also have cerebral palsy are limited in their actions, because the arm and the leg on one side of their body is affected due to the hemiplegia. This can happen to either side of the body. Most of the time, the arm and the appendages that connect to it are the most severely affected. In cerebral palsy hemiplegia, the muscles have spasticity, which shortens them and limits their growth. No cure has been found for this disorder, but physical therapy can help children to reduce the effects brought on by it.
