Cerebral Palsy Cause

Naturally when a child is born with cerebral palsy the first question addressed is the cause of the condition. The cerebral palsy cause can have legal implications because some cases are due to brain damage caused by problems that occur during the birthing process including mistakes made by doctors and nurses. Also some children get cerebral palsy because an adult has shaken the infant causing brain damage or the child was hit in the head either intentionally or as a result of a fall. Some of the other causes of cerebral palsy other than congenital malformation of the brain include malnutrition; failure to restrain an infant or young child in a car seat and the child hits the head during an accident; lead poisoning; exposure to dangerous chemicals; drug use by the mother; asphyxia caused by choking on an object; and infection in the baby or mother. Though understanding the cause is important, once cerebral palsy is present there is no cure. The person will need access to special services and care the rest of their life.
