C Section Breastfeeding

If you have had a c section breastfeeding may be affected in some way. You should be able to breastfeed right away after birth, after the anesthetic has worn off and is out of your system. Painkillers and antibiotics used during some types of c section deliveries may limit your ability to breastfeed right away. In addition, when a mother who has had a c section is trying to breastfeed, she will need to be extremely cautious about the position in which the baby is being held, until the woman's body has healed properly. The dual hit of having to recovery from the c section, which is considered major abdominal surgery, and having to breastfeed can be too difficult for some women and may leave them exhausted. Sleep, eating properly and taking it easy are important recommendations alongside getting some help.

Fast Facts
