Birth C Section

A birth c section involves the birth of a child through the abdomen rather than a vaginal delivery. This method is not the preferred method of delivery due to the numerous surgical mistakes that can occur. Nevertheless, it is an option when a child is unable to be born vaginally. It is also a faster birthing option for emergencies, such as when the fetus is in distress. Doctors can deliver a child through a c section birth in a matter of minutes if needed. Still, complications from this procedure can occur and they themselves can be life threatening in some situations. There are many reasons doctors will utilize this method of delivery for emergencies.

Fast Facts

  • C section births have increased from 16.6 percent of all births in 1995, to 23.2 percent in 2006.
  • The higher percentage of births through c section is partially due to the number of women who are obese and therefore unable to deliver vaginally.
