Athetoid Cerebral Palsy

Athetoid cerebral palsy is one of several types of cerebral palsy that affects a lesser number of patients compared to spastic cerebral palsy. In this condition, the child has a normal intelligence range. The body of the child may be significantly impacted by the condition, which leads to numerous problems with the muscles. The muscle tone, specifically, can be weak or tight. Many people who have athetoid cerebral palsy have difficulty walking, speaking clearly or sitting properly. Many individuals also suffer from difficulty with facial muscle control and may drool because of it. Although there are numerous treatment options, there is no cure for this form of cerebral palsy. This particular type of cerebral palsy is the second most commonly diagnosed.
