Ataxic Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a form of motor disorder. Ataxic cerebral palsy is a rare type of cerebral palsy characterized by a lack of balance (ataxia). Individuals with ataxic cerebral palsy have various degrees of limited balance. They may walk with an unco-ordinated gait and/or have difficulty in standing still. Ataxic cerebral palsy reaches its maximum improvement between 8 and 10 years of age. This form of cerebral palsy does effect the motor skills of the hands. This influences the ability of an individual to write normally. Another possible problem has to do with the auditory and visual processing of certain objects. Practising various balletic or gymnastic movements is one of the best ways to improve certain ataxia characteristics. Ataxic cerebral palsy may possibly arise from damage to the cerebellum. It may result from a prolonged lack of oxygen. If this form of cerebral palsy has occurred due to a birth trauma, consider consulting an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice.
